An excellent article from today's 'Guardian'.

  1. Having read this article I'm a bit unclear now as to where arts subjects stand with regards to the curriculum! Are they, are they not to be included in the national curriculum? I really hope that Gove listens to these Arts practitioners because they are right, we're going to lose an entire generation of artists, dancers, actors, architects etc!

  2. Subjects like Drama can still be offered in the curriculum but it is up to the school. They no not HAVE to be offered. They will not be offered as part of the Ebacc. The problem that these subjects face is that schools have to adhere to targets set. All resources are put into the subjects that can produce these targets. Therefore, it is highly probable that these creative subjects will be given less and less time/money/timetable space. I'm so passionate about Dance and Drama being kept 'alive'. I still want to go into teaching these subject because even though Gove might not care about them, many teachers still do and plenty of pupils want to go in to an artistic career. It is obviuosly going to be a massive uphill battle, contending with schools who will be focussing on other subjects and not these ones, but I think it will be worth it.
